Mueller Gas Connector G012SS101036

The Mueller G012SS101036 is a 36 inch stainless steel flexible gas connector used to link a gas appliance to the rigid supply piping.

Flexible connectors exist because appliances move. A range is pulled out for cleaning, a dryer is shifted to reach behind it, and equipment settles or is repositioned during service. A rigid connection subjected to that movement stresses the joints, and a flexible connector accommodates it.

The single most important rule governing gas connectors is that they must never be reused. A connector removed from an appliance is scrapped and a new one fitted, without exception.

The reason is the flare seal at each end. That seal is formed by metal deforming against the fitting seat when the nut is tightened, and the deformation is permanent. On reassembly the deformed surfaces no longer mate cleanly, and the joint may pass a cursory check while leaking slowly.

Connectors also work harden with flexing, and a connector that has been bent, straightened, and rebent during previous service has lost strength that cannot be assessed by looking at it.

The cost of a new connector is trivial against the consequence.

Confirm the connector length, connection sizes, and capacity rating against the appliance input. Do not conceal connectors within walls, floors, or ceilings, and leak test every joint with soap solution or an approved detector.
