The Mueller G012YE141548 is a 48 inch coated flexible gas connector for gas appliance installation.

Leak testing is the step that completes any gas connection, and doing it properly matters more than any other part of the job.

The method is to apply a soap solution or an approved leak detection fluid to every joint with the gas turned on and the connection pressurised, then observe for bubbles. Bubbles form at even a very small leak, and the test covers the flare seals at both ends of the connector, the adaptor threads, and the shutoff valve connections.

An electronic combustible gas detector serves the same purpose and is more sensitive, though it identifies the presence of gas rather than pinpointing the joint as reliably as bubbles do. Using both is better than either alone.

A flame must never be used to test for gas leaks.

The test should be given time. A very small leak may take a short period to produce visible bubbles, and moving on immediately after applying the solution can miss it.

Any leak found is corrected by disassembling and remaking the joint, not by tightening further, since a flare that is already leaking will rarely be cured by more force.

Confirm connector length, connection sizes, and capacity rating. Never reuse a connector, and leave it accessible and unconcealed.
