The QUIET is a no-roll plug and that is the specification — it is the plug that removes the technique problem entirely.

A conventional foam plug must be rolled down between the fingers into a thin cylinder, inserted quickly, and held while it expands. Every step of that is a failure point. Rolled unevenly, it does not compress enough to go deep. Inserted slowly, it expands in the outer ear rather than the canal. Rolled with dirty hands, it carries whatever was on them into the ear.

And the wearer cannot tell. A plug seated in the outer ear feels seated, and it delivers a fraction of its rating.

A no-roll plug is a moulded stem with a soft tip. It is pushed in by the stem, and the fingers never touch the part that enters the ear. It goes in the same way every time.

Which explains the NRR 26 — lower than the 32 and 33 foam plugs in this range. But that comparison is misleading: 33 is what a foam plug achieves when fitted perfectly in a laboratory, and 26 is what this achieves when fitted the only way it can be. In a real workforce, the no-roll plug frequently delivers more.
