The Honeywell Howard Leight SPALT-30 is a Laser Trak earplug, single use, individual polybag, NRR 32, with detectable poly-cord, one size, 100 per box.

Detectable is the specification and it is the whole product — this is a metal-detectable earplug, and it exists for food processing.

The problem is foreign body contamination. A food plant runs everything through metal detectors before it ships, because a fragment of anything in a product is a recall, a regulatory event, and potentially an injury. That detection net is only as good as the things it can see, and an ordinary earplug is invisible to it: foam and plastic cord pass straight through.

An earplug that falls out over a line is not a hypothetical. They are worn by everybody in the plant, they are small, they are soft, and they are exactly the colour of nothing.

A detectable plug carries a metal element — here, in the cord — so a plug that ends up in product is caught by the same detector that catches everything else. The plant's existing control system does the work.

That is why food, pharmaceutical, and beverage operations specify detectable plugs and why nobody else needs them.
