Product Highlights
Description
The Honeywell Howard Leight SPALPF-1 is a Max Lite earplug, single use, individual polybag, NRR 30, uncorded, small, 200 per box.
The Lite in Max Lite is the specification and it is a low-pressure foam, which addresses the reason plugs come out at lunchtime.
The mechanism: a foam plug seals by expanding against the canal wall, and the expansion force is what creates the seal. It is also what makes ears ache after four hours. An aching ear means a plug that comes out and stays out — and a 33 dB plug worn until eleven protects far less than a 30 dB plug worn all day.
A low-pressure foam expands with less force while still sealing. Reading the numbers here: Max Lite is NRR 30 against Max at 33. Three decibels of laboratory rating traded for a plug that stays in.
That trade is almost always worth taking, and it is the central truth of hearing protection: the best protector is the one that is worn.
The small size compounds it. Low-pressure foam in a small diameter is specifically for narrow canals, where a standard plug is uncomfortable enough that it gets rejected outright.
NRR 30 is a laboratory figure. OSHA's derating — subtract 7, halve — puts real-world protection near 11.5 dB.
Individual polybags keep the plug clean until the moment it is worn.
