Gardner Bender GBE46-308UVBMN 8 In

The Gardner Bender GBE46-308UVBMN is a cable tie, 8 inch x 0.17 inch, in black UV-stabilised nylon, supplied in a 1000-pack.

The UV specification is the whole point of this variant and it is not cosmetic. Untreated nylon exposed to sunlight undergoes photodegradation — ultraviolet energy breaks the polymer chains, and the tie becomes progressively brittle until it cracks and fails. In direct outdoor exposure that process can take a single season. The failure is also deceptive: the tie looks intact right up until it is touched and snaps.

Black UV ties carry carbon black pigment, which absorbs ultraviolet energy before it reaches the polymer. That is why outdoor cable ties are black rather than any other colour — the pigment is the protection, not a colour choice.

The rule that follows is straightforward: anything that will see sunlight gets a UV tie, and the marginal cost over a natural tie is trivial against the cost of a failed bundle on a roof or a tower.

At 8 inch length and 0.17 inch width, this is a light-to-medium tie for wire harnesses, conductor groups, and general routing.

The 1000-pack suits contractors and installers who consume ties continuously.

Applications include outdoor electrical installation, solar, telecom and utility work, signage, HVAC and rooftop equipment, agricultural equipment, and vehicle and trailer wiring.
