DiversiTech Latching Switch Pan BG-101

The DiversiTech BG-101 latching safety switch is a condensate overflow device configured for drain pan installation. It monitors the water level in a secondary or primary drain pan and interrupts the equipment control circuit when condensate rises above the safe threshold, preventing overflow damage to ceilings, flooring, and finishes below the unit.

The latching design distinguishes this switch from a simple float. Once tripped, the switch stays open until it is manually reset, even if the water level falls on its own. This matters because a self-resetting switch can allow a system to cycle repeatedly against an ongoing blockage, masking the underlying problem and eventually flooding anyway. A latching switch forces a service visit, so the clogged drain, failed trap, or dirty coil that caused the backup actually gets corrected.

Installation is straightforward: the switch mounts in the drain pan and wires in series with the 24V thermostat or control circuit, so a trip shuts down cooling operation. Because it interrupts low voltage control rather than line power, wiring is simple and safe to terminate at the equipment control board or contactor coil circuit.

Typical applications include residential and light commercial air handlers, fan coils, horizontal attic units, and any installation where the equipment sits above finished space. Many jurisdictions require secondary drain protection on units installed in attics or above ceilings, making a pan safety switch a code-driven part of a compliant installation. Test operation after installation by lifting the float and confirming the unit shuts down.
