Description
The Copeland CR53KQE-TF5-970 is a three phase hermetic reciprocating compressor for air conditioning service, supplied with polyol ester lubricant for nominal 200 to 230 volt three phase operation.
Mounting arrangement is a detail that is frequently reused from the old installation without inspection, and it deserves better attention. A reciprocating compressor produces vibration inherently, since pistons reverse direction twice per revolution and the resulting forces are transmitted into the compressor body.
Resilient mounting grommets isolate that vibration from the equipment base. They compress and harden with age and heat, and grommets that have gone hard transmit vibration directly into the base rails and from there into the cabinet and the building structure. The audible result is a unit that has become noticeably noisier, often reported by the customer as a new noise following a repair.
The mechanical consequence is more serious. Vibration transmitted into rigid pipework concentrates stress at the points where the tubing is constrained, and refrigerant lines fail by fatigue at exactly those points. A discharge line that fractures at a brazed joint months after a compressor replacement is frequently traced to grommets that were not renewed.
New grommets are supplied with most compressors and should be used. Check that mounting bolts are tightened to allow the grommet to function rather than clamped solid.
