The Copeland CR42K6E-PFV-925 is a single phase hermetic reciprocating air conditioning compressor with a polyol ester oil charge.

When a compressor is replaced because the motor burned out, the replacement is entering a system that has been contaminated. A motor burn releases acids, moisture, and carbonised insulation debris into the refrigerant and oil, and that contamination circulates throughout the entire circuit. Fitting a new compressor into an uncleaned system exposes it to the same acids that destroyed its predecessor.

Repeat failures following burnout are common, and the cause is almost always inadequate cleanup rather than a defective replacement.

Proper cleanup follows an established sequence. Recover the charge and treat it as contaminated. Assess severity, noting oil colour and odour and testing for acid. Replace the liquid line filter drier with a burnout rated drier, and fit a suction line filter drier where contamination is significant. Evacuate deeply and verify with an isolated decay test. Then monitor after commissioning, testing oil acidity after a period of operation and changing driers again if acid persists.

The suction line drier is often removed after a run in period once the system tests clean, since it imposes a pressure drop.

Establish why the original compressor failed before fitting the replacement. Confirm capacity, voltage, phase, refrigerant, lubricant, connections, and BOM against the equipment.
