Southwire Building Wire Stranded 14/4 50 58225705

The Southwire 58225705 is stranded 14/4 cable in a 50 foot length, providing four 14 gauge stranded conductors in a single jacketed assembly for control and equipment wiring.

Stranded construction is the defining characteristic. A stranded conductor comprises many fine wires rather than a single solid core, giving it substantially greater flexibility and much better resistance to fatigue from vibration and repeated flexing. In HVAC and refrigeration work this matters wherever cable enters equipment that vibrates in operation, passes through a hinged panel, or connects to a component that moves during service. Solid conductor work-hardens and eventually fractures under these conditions, often inside intact insulation where the break is invisible and produces intermittent faults.

Four conductors in one jacket suit control applications requiring multiple circuits between components: multi-stage equipment control, damper and actuator wiring, sensor and interlock runs, and connections between an outdoor unit and an indoor section requiring more than the usual two or three conductors.

The 50 foot length suits equipment interconnection and service work without requiring a full spool.

Applications include HVAC control interconnects, damper and actuator wiring, equipment interlocks, sensor circuits, refrigeration control panels, and general low voltage control installation.

Stranded conductors require terminations suited to stranded wire. Where a terminal is designed for solid conductor, use a ferrule or crimp terminal rather than clamping bare strands, which can spread and produce a loose or high resistance joint. Confirm the cable rating and jacket type suit the installation environment and comply with applicable code.
