Southwire Building Wire 12GA Red 100 22966684

The Southwire 22966684 is 12 gauge red building wire in a 100 foot length, supplied for branch circuit and equipment wiring.

Twelve gauge copper conductor carries a 20 amp rating in standard building applications, suiting general purpose and appliance receptacle circuits, small equipment feeds, and branch circuits protected at 20 amps. It is also commonly used on longer 15 amp runs to control voltage drop, which matters particularly for motor loads where reduced terminal voltage increases current draw and shortens winding life.

Red conventionally identifies an ungrounded conductor, most often the second hot leg in a 120/240 volt single phase circuit or an additional phase in three phase distribution. In HVAC work it also appears as a switched or travelling conductor in control wiring. Consistent colour discipline throughout an installation lets a technician identify conductor function immediately during later service, shortening diagnosis and reducing the chance of a dangerous misconnection.

The 100 foot length is a practical quantity for individual circuit runs, equipment connections, and repair work carried in a service vehicle.

Applications include multi-wire and three-way branch circuits, HVAC equipment and disconnect wiring, appliance circuits, junction box and panelboard connections, and general commercial and residential installation.

Before installation, confirm insulation type and temperature rating are suitable for the environment and for the terminations being made, as equipment terminal temperature ratings often govern the allowable ampacity independently of the conductor. Apply required derating for conduit fill and elevated ambient temperature and verify the installation meets applicable electrical code.
