Southwire Building Wire 12GA Black 100 22964184

The Southwire 22964184 is 12 gauge black building wire in a 100 foot length, supplied for branch circuit and equipment wiring in residential and commercial work.

Twelve gauge copper conductor is rated for 20 amps in standard installations, one step above 14 gauge. It is the common choice for general purpose receptacle circuits in commercial spaces, kitchen and appliance circuits, small equipment feeds, and any branch circuit protected at 20 amps. Conductor sizing must always be coordinated with the overcurrent device: a 20 amp breaker requires 12 gauge conductor as a minimum.

Black identifies an ungrounded conductor by convention, typically the first phase in a multi-conductor installation. Consistent colour coding across an installation lets a technician identify conductor function on sight during later service work, reducing diagnostic time and the risk of misconnection.

Twelve gauge is also frequently specified for longer runs at 15 amps to limit voltage drop. Voltage drop matters for motor loads in particular, since reduced terminal voltage increases current draw and operating temperature, shortening winding life.

The 100 foot length suits service work and individual circuit runs without requiring a full spool in a service vehicle.

Applications include receptacle and appliance branch circuits, HVAC equipment connections, disconnect and junction box wiring, panelboard work, and general electrical installation.

Confirm insulation type and temperature rating suit the environment and terminations, apply required derating for conduit fill and ambient temperature, and verify compliance with applicable electrical code before energizing.
