The Simple Green SGN13454 is anti-spatter, ready to use, 1 gal bottle, water base, VOC content 0.50 percent, not Green Seal certified, carries a Prop 65 listing, not a DOT hazardous substance.

Anti-spatter addresses the thing that makes MIG welding tedious: molten metal thrown from the arc lands on everything and sticks.

On the workpiece it becomes a chipping and grinding job that takes longer than the weld did. On the nozzle and contact tip it is worse — spatter builds up inside the gas cup, disturbs the shielding gas flow, and once the shielding is disturbed the weld starts picking up porosity. The welder chases a quality problem that is actually a housekeeping problem.

Anti-spatter puts a film on the surface that the spatter cannot bond to. It lands, it cools, and it brushes off.

The specification that matters most and that this data does not state: whether the formulation is silicone-free. Silicone-based anti-spatters work well and they contaminate everything downstream — a part sprayed with silicone anti-spatter will not take paint, and the fisheyes appear in the paint shop with nobody connecting them to the welding bay. Any fabrication that paints its own work needs a silicone-free product. Verify.

Water base and ready to use means no dilution and no solvent flammability near an arc.
