The Magnaflux MGX01158078 is 7HF non-fluorescent magnetic particles, 16 oz aerosol, black, an oily liquid and fine particle solution.

Magnetic particle inspection is one of the oldest non-destructive testing methods and it works on a principle that is almost visible. Magnetise a ferromagnetic part and the flux runs through it. Where there is a crack, the flux cannot cross the gap and leaks out of the surface — creating a tiny magnet at the flaw. Apply fine magnetic particles and they gather at that leakage field, drawing the crack in a line you can see.

The constraint that governs everything: this only works on ferromagnetic materials. Steel and iron, yes. Aluminium, copper, and austenitic stainless, no. Those need dye penetrant or another method entirely.

This is a wet method product — particles suspended in an oily carrier rather than dry powder. Wet methods are more sensitive to fine surface cracks, because the carrier lets particles move freely to the leakage field. Dry powders suit rough surfaces and subsurface indications.

Black is the visible-light contrast colour, which means it is read against a light background — typically with a white contrast paint applied first.

Non-fluorescent means it is read in ordinary light rather than under UV.

Applications include weld inspection, castings, forgings, and in-service crack detection.
