The Magnaflux MGX01592048 is an SK-816 penetrant testing kit, Type 2, Method B and C, visible penetrant testing, solvent removable.

A kit is how penetrant inspection actually reaches the field, because the method needs three products in sequence and having two of them is having none. Cleaner, penetrant, developer — miss one and there is no test.

Type 2 means visible dye: a red indication read against white developer in ordinary light. Type 1 is fluorescent, needs UV and a darkened area, and is more sensitive. Type 2 needs nothing but daylight, which is why it dominates field inspection.

The method designations are the removal technique and they are worth decoding. Method A is water washable. Method B is post-emulsifiable lipophilic. Method C is solvent removable. Method D is post-emulsifiable hydrophilic. This kit lists B and C alongside a solvent removable designation — verify against the current data sheet which the kit's contents actually support, since method determines procedure and the wrong procedure invalidates the inspection.

The absolute limitation of the method: penetrant only finds flaws open to the surface. Subsurface flaws require ultrasonics or radiography.

Its unique strength: unlike magnetic particle, it works on any non-porous material — aluminium, austenitic stainless, titanium, plastics.
