At 1 gallon this is the size for a shop that cleans aluminium occasionally rather than continuously — which is most shops, and which is exactly where the mistake gets made.

The mistake is reaching for whatever degreaser is on the shelf. Simple Green's Original formula should not sit in prolonged contact with aluminium and some soft metals, and a shop with a drum of Original and an aluminium trailer to clean will use the drum. The damage is not immediate and it is not always visible, which is why the habit persists.

A gallon of the correct product next to the drum is what prevents it. This is the aluminium-safe formula, and its whole purpose is that it can be left on the metal.

That matters for aircraft structure, machined parts, ladders, trailers, and anything anodised or precision-finished.
