CRC CRC03020 Penetrating Solvent 16 oz Red Aerosol Petroleum

The CRC03020 is a penetrating solvent supplied in a 16 oz aerosol with a 13 oz net fill, packaged 1 each with 12 per case. It is a red, petroleum-base liquid with a 147 °F flash point and a moderate evaporation rate.

A penetrating solvent is formulated to do one thing that ordinary lubricants cannot: travel into a joint that is already closed. Rust between a nut and a bolt does not leave a visible gap, but it leaves a capillary path, and a penetrant is built with the low surface tension and thin viscosity to wick along that path by capillary action. Once inside, it works on the corrosion binding the threads rather than sitting uselessly on the outside of the fastener.

The petroleum base carries the active chemistry into the joint and leaves a lubricating film behind as it works, which is what allows a fastener to turn once the bond is broken rather than galling on the way out.

The moderate evaporation rate is deliberate. A fast-flashing product would be gone before it had penetrated; a penetrant needs to stay wet long enough to travel and work. Application, wait, and reapplication is the correct method — not a single spray and an immediate wrench.

The 147 °F flash point places it in a manageable class, though ignition sources still require precaution.

Applications include seized fasteners, rusted bolts and nuts, frozen linkages, pins, and corroded assemblies across fleet, agricultural, marine, and plant maintenance.
