Showa SHWS-TEX350M-08 Cut Resistant Glove Medium 11 Nitrile 10 A4

The Showa SHWS-TEX350M-08 is a cut resistant glove, medium, cut level A4, nitrile, 10 gauge, 11 inches long.

Note that the listed material, nitrile, describes the coating rather than the shell. The cut resistance comes from the engineered yarn underneath — nitrile itself has none. Worth correcting, because it misrepresents where the protection comes from.

The 10 gauge knit is the specification worth explaining, because gauge is the number that gets read backwards.

Gauge counts needles per inch on the knitting machine. Lower gauge means fewer, heavier needles — a coarser knit made from thicker yarn. Higher gauge means a finer knit from finer yarn. So a 10 gauge glove is thicker and heavier than an 18 gauge glove, and it is the low number that means more material.

That matters because cut resistance follows material. A 10 gauge A4 glove gets its protection partly from the yarn's engineering and partly from there being more of it. An 18 gauge glove feels wonderful and cannot carry the same protection in the same yarn.

Which is the honest trade in this whole category: dexterity against protection, and the gauge number tells you which way it went.

A4 on the ANSI A1 to A9 scale is genuine protection against sheet metal, glass, and blades.

Applications include glass, metal fabrication, and handling.
