The Showa SHW7500PFL is a disposable glove, large, 5.3 length, 4 mil thickness, nitrile, bisque grip, blue, single use, powder free.

Powder free is the specification and the history behind it is worth knowing, because it explains why powdered gloves have effectively disappeared.

Glove powder — cornstarch — was there to make gloves easier to pull on. It also aerosolised every time a glove was donned or removed, and on latex gloves it carried latex proteins into the air. That airborne protein is what sensitised an entire generation of healthcare workers to latex, turning a material problem into an occupational epidemic. Powdered gloves are now banned in medical use in the US.

Powder is also a contaminant in its own right. In food handling, electronics, coating, and precision assembly, a cloud of starch is the last thing anybody wants.

At 4 mil this is a light disposable — thin enough for real tactile feedback, and correspondingly easy to tear. Heavier disposables at 6 and 8 mil exist for mechanical work.

The critical caveat on any disposable: this is a splash glove. Disposable nitrile offers incidental protection and a short breakthrough time. It is not a chemical glove and it should never be used as one.

Bisque grip is the textured finish.

Applications include food handling, medical, and light assembly.
