Showa SHW727-10 727-10 Chemical Resistance Glove X-Large 13 L Light Green

The Showa SHW727-10 is a 727 chemical resistance glove, X-Large, 13 inches long, light green.

The 13 inch length is the specification and it is what makes this a chemical glove rather than a glove that resists chemicals.

A standard glove ends at the wrist. That is fine for handling and it is exactly wrong for liquid, because liquid runs. Reaching into a tank, a parts washer, or a drum, the chemical runs down the glove and off the cuff onto the forearm — and the wearer, who is wearing chemical gloves, is being exposed. A 13 inch gauntlet covers the forearm and gives the liquid somewhere to run that is not skin.

The other half of that is technique: hands up when reaching in, hands down when withdrawing, so what is on the glove runs off the fingertips rather than into the cuff.

The specification this data does not carry, and which decides everything: what it resists. No glove resists all chemicals. Nitrile handles oils and many solvents and is destroyed by ketones. Butyl handles ketones and esters. Neoprene, PVC, and Viton each have their own profile — and each has a breakthrough time, measured in minutes, for every specific chemical.

Verify against a breakthrough chart for the actual chemical. Colour is not a specification.

Applications include chemical handling and parts washing.
