Robertshaw Mechanism Defrost 8145-20M

The Robertshaw 8145-20M is a defrost timer mechanism, supplied as the internal assembly rather than a complete timer in its enclosure.

Selling the mechanism separately addresses a common service situation. Where a defrost timer has failed but its enclosure, mounting, and wiring terminations remain sound, replacing only the mechanism restores the control without disturbing the installation.

The advantage is in the wiring. A complete timer replacement means disconnecting and re-landing every conductor, which on a defrost circuit means the timer motor supply, the refrigeration circuit, the defrost circuit, and the termination connections. Each of those is an opportunity for an error that will not become apparent until the next defrost cycle. Changing the mechanism within an existing enclosure leaves the terminations untouched.

It is also faster and less expensive, which matters on commercial refrigeration where downtime carries a cost in product.

The mechanism must match the timer it is fitted into, including the voltage rating of the timer motor, and confirming this against the existing unit is the necessary check before ordering.

Where the enclosure is corroded, the terminals are damaged, or the wiring is deteriorated, a complete replacement is the better course.
