Robertshaw Gas Valve 24V 240K BTU 700-400

The Robertshaw 700-400 is a 24 volt gas valve rated to approximately 240,000 BTU per hour capacity.

A 24 volt gas valve is opened by an electrical signal from the furnace or appliance control rather than by a mechanical linkage or a millivolt circuit. This is the standard arrangement in modern gas heating equipment, where the control board sequences the ignition and energises the valve only when it has proved the inducer, run the ignitor, and is ready to light.

The valve is the final safety element in that chain. It opens only when energised, and it closes immediately on loss of signal, which occurs if any safety in the control circuit opens: the pressure switch, the limit, a rollout switch, or the flame sensing circuit on failure to prove.

The 240,000 BTU rating describes the capacity the valve can pass, and a valve must be selected to at least the appliance's input rating. Valve capacity is a function of size and internal design, and fitting an undersized valve starves the burner.
