Product Highlights
Description
The PIP PIN16-564M is a G-Tek PolyKor knit glove with polyurethane coating on the palm and fingers, medium.
PolyKor is PIP's engineered cut-resistant yarn, and engineered is the operative word. Modern cut-resistant yarns are composites — a blend of high-performance fibres, frequently with fine glass or steel filaments spun in — and the blend is what allows high cut resistance in a knit thin enough to work in.
The old approach was bulk: more material, more protection, less usable glove. Engineered yarns get the protection from the fibre rather than the quantity, which is why an 18 gauge glove today can outperform a 10 gauge glove from twenty years ago.
The polyurethane coating supplies grip. PU is thin and flexible and it grips dry and lightly oiled surfaces well, which is why it dominates assembly work. It is poor in heavy oil, where foam nitrile is the correct coating.
The specification that is missing and that matters most: no ANSI cut level is stated. The ANSI scale runs A1 to A9, and the letter is the entire reason a customer buys a cut glove. A PolyKor glove could be anywhere in that range depending on the yarn. Obtain the rating before listing this against a cut hazard.
Applications include assembly, handling, glass, and fabrication.
