Permatex PER80078 8 Oz. Brush-Top Bottle Anti-Seize Lubricant

The Permatex PER80078 is an 8 oz brush-top bottle of anti-seize lubricant.

Anti-seize prevents galling, and galling is worth describing because it surprises people who have not met it.

Torque two threaded metal parts together and the microscopic high points on the thread flanks are pressed hard enough to cold-weld to each other. Once that starts, further turning tears metal rather than sliding, which generates heat, which welds more. The fastener seizes solid partway down the thread. It does not come out — it shears.

Stainless steel is notoriously prone to it, which is why stainless fasteners have a reputation carbon steel does not.

Anti-seize interposes soft metal particles suspended in grease between the flanks so they cannot make metal-to-metal contact. It also prevents the slow corrosion seizure that makes a bolt in a flange impossible to remove years later.

Note that this listing does not state the grade. Grade determines temperature range and metallurgical compatibility, and it is not a detail — copper grades are prohibited on stainless in many specifications, and nickel grades exist for that reason. Confirm before selling into stainless or high-temperature work.

The point that belongs on every anti-seize: it lubricates. A lubricated fastener reaches a given tension at far lower torque than a dry one. Use the lubricated figure or expect to snap the bolt.
