Panasonic Exhaust Fan 50-110CFM FV-0511VQ1

The Panasonic FV-0511VQ1 is a residential ventilation fan with selectable airflow in the range of approximately 50 to 110 CFM, allowing one unit to be configured for a range of room sizes.

The selectable range is what makes this style of fan useful to contractors carrying stock. Rather than holding several models sized for different rooms, one unit covers powder rooms at the low end through large bathrooms at the upper end, with the airflow set at installation.

Sizing guidance for bathrooms is conventionally based on room volume, with a commonly used rule of roughly one CFM per square foot of floor area for rooms under about 100 square feet, and an allowance added for fixtures such as a separate shower enclosure, a jetted tub, or an enclosed toilet compartment. Rooms with high ceilings warrant a calculation based on air changes rather than floor area.

Selecting toward the higher end of the range also compensates for duct losses. Delivered airflow in an installed system is always less than the free air rating, and the shortfall grows with duct length, flexible duct, elbows, and restrictive terminations.

Applications include residential bathrooms, powder rooms, laundry and utility spaces, in new construction and retrofit. Duct with rigid pipe of the correct diameter, keep the run short and direct, terminate outdoors, and pair with a timer or humidity control so the fan runs long enough to clear the moisture load.
