Eight inch duct typically serves a large room, a small zone, or a short trunk extension, and 420 CFM is enough air to make a meaningful difference to a space that is currently underserved. Common applications include boosting a run feeding a large master suite, a finished basement, a sunroom, or an addition, along with dedicated exhaust from workshops, utility rooms, and small commercial spaces.

The distinction between a boost fan and a primary fan is worth keeping clear. An inline booster on a branch of a central system supplements the air handler; it cannot create airflow the system does not have, and if the underlying problem is an undersized return, a dirty coil, or a blower running against excessive static pressure, a boost fan on one branch will help that room while leaving the real fault in place. Checking system static pressure before adding a booster often identifies a cheaper and more effective remedy.
