DiversiTech Definite Purpose Contactor C230C

The DiversiTech C230C is a two pole definite purpose contactor rated 30 amps with a 208/240 volt coil.

A line voltage coil at 208/240 volts is energised directly from the supply rather than through a control transformer. Equipment using this arrangement typically employs a line voltage thermostat or a pressure control to switch the coil, which is common in commercial refrigeration, walk-in coolers and freezers, and older or simpler equipment without a 24 volt control system.

One characteristic of line voltage coils is worth noting. Because the control circuit carries line voltage, every device in that circuit, the thermostat, any pressure or temperature controls, and the wiring between them, is at line potential. This has implications for how the equipment is serviced and for what happens when a control fails: a shorted line voltage control can deliver full supply voltage where it is not expected.

Coil voltage must be matched exactly at replacement. A 24 volt coil connected to 240 volts fails within seconds, and the resulting short can damage the control circuit that energised it.

At 30 amps this contactor suits compressor and motor loads typical of light commercial refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
