The DiversiTech C230E is a two pole definite purpose contactor rated 30 amps with a 277 volt coil.

277 volts is the line to neutral voltage derived from a 480/277 volt three phase wye system, and it is the standard control and lighting voltage in commercial buildings served at 480 volts. A contactor with a 277 volt coil is energised directly from that supply.

This voltage exists in the catalogue for a specific class of installation, and it is not interchangeable with the more familiar options. A 240 volt coil connected to 277 volts runs hot and fails prematurely; a 277 volt coil on a 240 volt supply may pull in weakly or chatter. The coil marking must be read and matched rather than assumed from the physical appearance of the part, since contactors of different coil voltages are outwardly identical.

Confirming the actual control circuit voltage with a meter, rather than inferring it from the building's nominal service, is the reliable approach. Buildings frequently contain more than one voltage.
