Nidec/Emerson Blower Motor 3/4 HP 1075 RPM 8905

The Nidec/Emerson 8905 is a 3/4 horsepower, 1075 RPM PSC direct-drive blower motor supplied as a field replacement for indoor blower assemblies in furnaces, air handlers, and fan coils.

Permanent split capacitor construction gives this motor its characteristic quiet running and reasonable part-load efficiency, but it also means the motor produces relatively low starting torque. That is acceptable in a direct-drive blower because the blower wheel presents a light starting load, but it makes the motor unforgiving of a wheel that is seized, rubbing the housing, or heavily loaded with dirt. A motor that starts only after the wheel is turned by hand is indicating a mechanical problem, a failed capacitor, or a winding fault, and the cause should be identified before a replacement is fitted.

Speed taps allow separate heating and cooling airflow selection. At 1075 RPM the motor is a four-pole design suited to residential blower wheel sizes.

Match horsepower, RPM, voltage, rotation, frame diameter, shaft diameter and length, and run capacitor rating to the failed unit. Confirm shaft rotation from the shaft end as marked, since fitting a motor of the wrong rotation to a forward-curved blower wheel produces greatly reduced airflow that is easily mistaken for a duct problem.
