Mars Blower Motor 1/6-1/2 HP 1075R M10464

The Mars M10464 is a direct drive blower motor rated 1/6 to 1/2 horsepower at 1075 RPM.

Rotation direction is a specification that must be confirmed on any blower motor replacement, and it is stated relative to a defined viewing position, normally the shaft end or the lead end.

Reading the specification carelessly produces a motor that runs backwards. A backwards running blower wheel moves a small fraction of its proper airflow, and the symptom on a furnace is a limit that cycles, while on a cooling system it is a coil that ices.

The confusion arises because the same motor can be described as clockwise or counter-clockwise depending on which end it is viewed from, and manufacturers do not always state the reference clearly.

Some replacement motors are reversible, with rotation selected by lead connection, which removes the problem provided the connection is made correctly.

Confirming rotation by observing the motor briefly before reassembling the blower assembly, rather than after, saves dismantling it again.

The wheel must also be fitted the correct way round, since a wheel reversed on a correctly rotating motor produces the same poor airflow.
