The Fasco D1127 is a multi-horsepower blower motor for HVAC applications.
Multi-horsepower motors are designed as replacements covering several original equipment ratings, selected by which of the motor's leads are connected.
The appeal is stocking. A single motor covering a range of horsepower ratings reduces the number of part numbers a distributor or contractor must carry, and increases the chance that a failure can be resolved from stock rather than by ordering.
The responsibility transferred to the installer is selecting the correct connection. The motor's wiring diagram identifies which leads correspond to which horsepower or speed, and connecting the wrong combination produces a motor delivering the wrong airflow.
On a furnace, too little airflow causes the limit to cycle and can crack a heat exchanger over time. Too much airflow reduces the temperature rise below specification and can cause condensation in a non-condensing appliance.
Measuring temperature rise after installation and confirming it falls within the appliance's specified range is the check that verifies the selection was correct.
