Product Highlights
Description
The Nidec/Emerson 1863 is a 1/4 horsepower, 1075 RPM permanent split capacitor blower motor for direct-drive indoor blower service in furnaces, air handlers, fan coils, and unit heaters.
A PSC motor uses a run capacitor permanently in the auxiliary winding circuit to create the phase shift needed for rotation. That design gives smooth, quiet operation and good efficiency at rated load, and it is the reason PSC has been the standard direct-drive blower motor type in residential HVAC for decades. The run capacitor is a required companion component, not an accessory, and a motor that hums without starting is far more often a failed capacitor than a failed motor.
At 1075 RPM the motor is a four-pole design, the usual synchronous speed class for indoor blowers where noise and airflow characteristics matter more than shaft speed. Multiple speed taps allow the installer to select separate heating and cooling airflow.
When replacing, match horsepower, RPM, voltage, rotation, frame diameter, shaft diameter and length, and capacitor microfarad rating. Undersizing horsepower to save cost causes the motor to run hot and fail early, while oversizing does not increase airflow because the blower wheel and duct system set the operating point.
