Product Highlights
Description
The Nidec/Emerson 1972 is a 1/3 horsepower, 1075 RPM permanent split capacitor blower motor for direct-drive indoor blower applications in furnaces, air handlers, and fan coil units.
One third horsepower is the most widely specified size in residential direct-drive blower service, covering typical two to three ton air handler blowers and a broad range of gas furnace blower assemblies. That volume is why it is a standard truck-stock item for service contractors.
The motor operates with a permanently connected run capacitor. Before condemning any PSC blower motor, the capacitor should be tested under load or with a capacitance meter, since a capacitor that has drifted below its rated value produces exactly the symptoms most often attributed to motor failure: slow starting, overheating, tripping on thermal overload, and reduced airflow.
At 1075 RPM the motor is a four-pole design. Speed taps allow separate heating and cooling airflow selection, and unused taps must be individually insulated rather than left loose in the blower compartment.
Verify horsepower, RPM, voltage, rotation, frame and shaft dimensions, and capacitor rating against the failed motor. Also inspect the blower wheel for accumulated dirt, since a loaded wheel reduces airflow and increases motor temperature regardless of motor condition.
