Nidec/Emerson Blower Motor 1/2 HP 1075 RPM 5461

The Nidec/Emerson 5461 is a 1/2 horsepower, 1075 RPM PSC direct-drive blower motor for indoor blower service in furnaces, air handlers, and fan coil units.

Half horsepower is the usual size for three to four ton residential air handlers and larger gas furnace blower assemblies, where the blower must move roughly 1,200 to 1,600 CFM against typical residential duct static pressure. Motors in this class run for the majority of the year in systems configured for continuous fan operation, so efficiency and bearing quality have a direct effect on operating cost and service interval.

The motor uses a permanently connected run capacitor to establish the rotating field. Capacitor condition should be verified whenever the motor is replaced, because a weak capacitor will drive a new motor into the same premature failure that killed the original.

Speed taps permit independent heating and cooling airflow selection. Unused leads must be capped individually.

Match horsepower, RPM, voltage, rotation, frame diameter, shaft diameter and length, and capacitor microfarad rating to the failed motor. Before returning the system to service, confirm blower amp draw against the motor nameplate; a reading above nameplate indicates excessive airflow, a wheel that is out of position, or a duct or wheel problem that will destroy the new motor.
