The MCR Safety MCR983L is a pair of mechanics gloves, synthetic, large, black and orange, slip-on open cuff, Thinsulate lining, embossed finish, black polymer, nylon cuff, premium grade.

The black and orange colour scheme is worth more than a mention on a cold-weather glove, because of when and where cold-weather gloves get worn. Winter work is short-daylight work: mornings before sunrise, afternoons after sunset, and grey conditions in between. It is also, frequently, outdoor work near traffic and plant.

An orange glove is seen. That matters when the hand is the thing being signalled with, or the thing reaching into a space where an operator needs to know it is there.

Thinsulate is the lining and its achievement is warmth per unit of thickness. Conventional insulation traps air by loft — more warmth means more bulk, which in a glove destroys the point. Thinsulate's microfibres trap more air in less thickness, so the hand stays warm and still works.

The embossed finish grips through texture rather than a thick polymer coating, keeping the glove flexible.

The slip-on nylon cuff means fast on and fast off, which is what determines whether a cold-weather glove is worn or pocketed.

Sizing note: insulated gloves want a slightly looser fit. A tight glove compresses the lining and restricts circulation, which makes hands colder.
