MCR Safety MCR9672DT2L Cut Resistant Gloves 18 ga Dyneema Large Gray

The MCR Safety MCR9672DT2L is a pair of cut resistant gloves, Dyneema, large, gray and blue, ANSI puncture level 2, ANSI cut level A2, ANSI abrasion level 3, 18 gauge, gray polymer.

The ANSI cut level A2 is the specification that matters and it should be read honestly. The ANSI/ISEA cut scale runs from A1 to A9, and A2 is near the bottom of it. This is a light cut-resistant glove — protection against incidental contact, paper and box edges, and light burrs. It is not a glove for handling glass, sheet metal edges, or blades, which need A4 and above.

Selling an A2 glove against a serious cut hazard is worse than selling no glove, because the wearer believes they are protected.

The 18 gauge specification explains why the rating is where it is. Gauge describes knit density: higher numbers mean finer yarn and a thinner glove. At 18 gauge this is a very fine knit — highly dexterous, comfortable, and light, with less material and therefore less cut resistance. That is a deliberate trade, and for assembly and handling work where dexterity is the requirement, it is the right one.

Dyneema is ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene: cut resistant for its weight and cool against the skin, unlike aramid alternatives.

Note the separate puncture level 2 and abrasion level 3 ratings — cut, puncture, and abrasion are independent.
