MCR Safety MCR38600MW Leather Welding Chaps 38" Long

The MCR Safety MCR38600MW is a pair of leather welding chaps, 38 inch long, case quantity 30, priced and sold per each.

Welding chaps address the specific and predictable path that molten metal takes, which is downward. A welder standing at a bench has their legs directly beneath the work, and everything that falls off the joint — spatter, slag, cut-off, dross — lands on their thighs and knees. Ordinary trousers burn through, and burning trousers are worse than no protection because they hold the heat against skin.

Leather is the material and it is not a preference. It does not melt, it does not sustain flame, and it takes the impact of molten metal without transmitting it. Synthetic fabric melts onto skin, which turns a small burn into a serious one.

At 38 inches these are full-length, covering from waist to below the knee — which is what a welder standing needs. Shorter chaps leave the shins.

The reason chaps exist rather than trousers is that a welder needs to take them off. Leather trousers worn all day are unbearable; chaps go on for the weld and come off for everything else, which means they actually get worn.

Note: priced per each despite a case quantity of 30, so confirm the order unit.

Applications include welding, cutting, grinding, and foundry work.
