Jackson Safety JKS14973 Welding Helmet HSL100 Passive Black Hsl 10

The Jackson Safety JKS14973 is an HSL100 passive welding helmet, black, with an HSL (Shadow) shell, 4-1/2 x 5-1/4 inch filter and viewing area, shade 10.

The HSL shell is the specification worth understanding. HSL is Jackson's narrow shell design, built specifically for confined spaces — the shell is slimmer than a conventional helmet, which is what lets a welder get their head into places a standard hood physically will not go. Anyone who has tried to weld inside a vessel, between beams, or in a pipe rack knows the hood is frequently what stops them.

The trade is that a narrow shell offers less spark coverage around the sides. It is a specialisation, not an upgrade.

What is notable here is the window: 4-1/2 x 5-1/4 inches is a large viewing area on a narrow shell, which is an unusual combination. Normally the narrow-shell helmets carry the small 4-1/4 x 2 inch window. Getting both the confined-space profile and a full-size view is the point of the HSL100.

Passive means a fixed shade 10 filter — no battery, no electronics, nothing to fail, and no delay. The welder positions the hood before striking.

Note that this catalog carries several HSL100 helmets with identical stated specifications; confirm the SKU you need.

Applications include confined space welding, vessel and tank work, and structural fabrication.
