Jackson Safety JKS14982 Welding Helmet HSL2 Passive Black HSL-2 4 1/4 x 2 Inch

The Jackson Safety JKS14982 is an HSL2 passive welding helmet, black, with an HSL-2 shell, 4-1/4 x 2 inch filter and viewing area, shade 10.

The HSL-2 shell is the distinction from the HSL-1 alongside it in the range, and both carry the same 4-1/4 x 2 inch window. The shells differ in their geometry within Jackson's narrow-shell family — worth confirming against the manufacturer's specification which suits your work, since the data here does not describe the difference.

What both share is the design intent. HSL is Jackson's narrow shell line, built for confined spaces, and the small window follows the same logic. A welder inside a vessel or between structural members is frequently blocked by their helmet before anything else, and every inch of shell that comes off is an inch that fits through the opening. The compact window keeps the whole assembly small and light.

The trade is field of view. A 4-1/4 x 2 inch window shows the puddle and little around it, so the welder repositions more often to see the joint in context. For out-of-position work in tight quarters, that is worth it. For open bench welding, a large-window helmet is the better tool.

Passive means a fixed shade 10 filter — no battery, no electronics, no failure mode.

Applications include confined space welding, boiler and vessel work, and shipyards.
