The Master Lock MLS487 is a small electrical plug lockout, rotating style, for electrical plug sizes up to 2-1/4 inch diameter x 3-1/4 inch with cord diameter up to 3/4 inch — most 110 and many 220 volt plugs — in thermoplastic, red.

A plug lockout addresses the isolation point everybody forgets. Lockout procedure is well understood at breakers and disconnects; a piece of equipment that is simply unplugged is treated as safe because the plug is visible. It is not safe. Someone walks past, sees a plug hanging out of a socket, and does the natural thing.

The device encloses the plug so it physically cannot be inserted, and accepts a padlock so it cannot be opened. That converts an assumption into a control.

This matters most for the equipment nobody writes a procedure for — bench grinders, pumps, portable machinery, temporary installations. Those are exactly the machines that get worked on informally.

The rotating design refers to how the enclosure opens and closes around the plug.

The size range is the fitment specification and it is a real limit: up to 2-1/4 x 3-1/4 inch with a 3/4 inch cord. Large industrial plugs and locking connectors need a different device. Measure before ordering.

Thermoplastic is non-conductive, which on a device that grips a mains plug is not optional.
