Master Lock MLS410RED Safety Lockout Padlock With permanent write-on labels

The Master Lock MLS410RED is a safety lockout padlock, keyed different with a 6-pin tumbler cylinder, with permanent write-on labels, 1-1/2 inch, Xenoy, red, 1/4 inch shackle diameter, 1-1/2 inch shackle clearance.

Red is the specification and it is the most conventional colour in lockout, commonly designating electrical isolation or the primary lockout lock in a facility's scheme — though the assignment is set by each site's written procedure rather than by a standard.

That colour scheme is doing real work. A plant with a documented colour code means a supervisor can look at an isolation point and read the situation instantly: which department has it locked, what kind of energy is isolated, whether it is a personal lock or a group lock. In an emergency, or at a shift change, that is the difference between understanding and guessing.

Keyed different is mandatory rather than optional on a lockout lock. One lock, one key, one worker — and no master. The entire protection is that only the person inside the machine can release it, and a master key destroys that completely.

Xenoy is non-conductive, which matters because a great many lockout points are electrical.

The write-on label carries the worker's name. A lock without one is an unidentified lock, and an unidentified lock stops a plant restarting while everybody looks for its owner.
