The Master Lock MLS410BLU is a safety lockout padlock, keyed different with a 6-pin tumbler cylinder, with permanent write-on labels, 1-1/2 inch, Xenoy, blue, 1/4 inch shackle diameter, 1-1/2 inch shackle clearance.

A lockout padlock is not a security lock and understanding the difference is the whole point.

Under lockout/tagout procedure, a worker servicing equipment applies their own lock to the energy isolation device. That lock exists to stop the machine being energised while they are inside it — and its security value is essentially zero, because anyone with bolt cutters could remove it. What stops the machine being started is procedure, backed by a lock that cannot be opened by anyone else and that carries the name of the person who applied it.

Which is why keyed different is mandatory rather than a preference. One lock, one key, one worker. If a supervisor holds a master key, the lock protects nobody — the entire mechanism is that only the person inside the machine can release it.

Xenoy is a non-conductive polymer, which matters because lockout points are frequently electrical.

The write-on label is not a nicety. A lock on an isolation point with no name is an unidentified lock, and an unidentified lock stops a plant restarting while people search for its owner.
