Master Lock MLS3KALH Padlock Laminated steel body 1-9/16" 9/32" Silver 2"

The Master Lock MLS3KALH is a padlock with a laminated steel body, 1-9/16 inch, steel, silver, keyed alike, 9/32 inch shackle diameter, 2 inch shackle clearance.

The 2 inch shackle clearance is the specification and it is the difference between this and the standard 3KA, which has 3/4 inch. That is the long-shackle version, and the clearance is the number that decides whether a lock is usable at all.

Clearance is the gap between shackle and body — the space available to pass through whatever is being secured. Three-quarters of an inch fits a hasp and nothing else. Two inches reaches through a chain, a thick latch, a pair of hasp eyes, or a gate with real hardware.

The trade is honest and worth stating: a longer shackle is easier to attack. More exposed steel means more purchase for bolt cutters and a longer lever for prying. A long shackle is chosen because the job needs it, not because more is better — and the correct practice is the shortest shackle that fits, leaving the least steel exposed.

Keyed alike means all locks in the batch open with one key. Note that no key number is stated here, so these will match each other rather than any existing set.

Laminated steel is layered plates riveted together — tough and resistant to cutting and prying.

Applications include chains, gates, and site security.
