Master Lock MLS3KALH-0851 Laminated Padlock NonRekeyable 4-Pin W1 Cylinder

The Master Lock MLS3KALH-0851 is a 3KALH-0851 laminated padlock, non-rekeyable, with a 4-pin W1 cylinder.

The 4-pin W1 cylinder is the specification and it is worth being straight about what it means. Pin count is one measure of a cylinder's resistance to picking and to key duplication — more pins means more combinations and more work to defeat. Four pins is a modest count, which places this in the general-purpose rather than high-security tier.

That is not a criticism. Most padlocks are not defeated by picking; they are defeated by bolt cutters, by an angle grinder, or by unscrewing the hasp they hang from. A four-pin cylinder is entirely adequate for deterrence and for keeping honest people honest, which is what the overwhelming majority of padlocks are actually for. Anyone whose threat model includes a determined attacker with tools needs a different product and a different hasp.

W1 is the keyway designation, and it matters for compatibility: keys and cylinders are keyway-specific.

Non-rekeyable means the cylinder cannot be changed. When a key goes missing, the lock gets replaced.

The 0851 key number identifies the keyed-alike batch. Order the same number to match existing locks.

LH indicates the long shackle version.

Applications include gates, chains, and general site security.
