Mars Furnace Blower Motor 1/3 HP 2 M10586

The Mars M10586 is a 1/3 horsepower furnace blower motor.

A blower motor failure is worth treating as a prompt to establish why it failed, since motors do not generally fail without reason.

Age accounts for many failures, and a motor that has run for fifteen or twenty years has given reasonable service.

A motor that has failed early points elsewhere. Restricted airflow makes the motor work against high static pressure, drawing more current and running hotter. A dirty blower wheel unbalances the assembly and loads the bearings. A weak or failed run capacitor leaves the motor running with reduced torque and elevated current. A supply voltage consistently outside the motor's tolerance shortens its life. And an equipment cabinet that runs hot, from a failed limit or from recirculating discharge air, cooks the motor.

Checking static pressure, cleaning the wheel, fitting a new capacitor, and confirming supply voltage at replacement addresses the common causes and gives the new motor the service life it should have.

Applications include residential furnaces, air handlers, and fan coil units.
