The Mars M91321 is a two pole contactor rated 30 amps with a 24 volt coil.

This combination, two poles at 30 amps with a low voltage coil, covers the majority of residential condensing units in service, which makes it among the most frequently fitted replacement parts in air conditioning work.

Because it is fitted so often, it is also the part most often fitted carelessly. Two errors recur. The first is selecting on physical appearance rather than rating, since contactors of quite different capacities share similar dimensions. The second is transferring the wiring one conductor at a time without recording the original arrangement, which is workable until an interruption breaks the sequence.

Photographing the existing wiring before disconnecting anything takes seconds and removes both the uncertainty and the temptation to reason it out afterwards. On equipment where a crankcase heater, a start capacitor, or a low ambient control is wired into the contactor, the original arrangement carries information that the wiring diagram may not fully convey.

Verifying the equipment nameplate rating rather than the outgoing part is the reliable basis for selection, since the outgoing part may itself have been an incorrect substitution.
