LPS 1 leaves a thin dry film. It is specified for locks and electrical devices precisely because it does not stay oily and therefore does not collect dust and grit. LPS 2 is the opposite by design: it leaves an oily film that penetrates, displaces moisture, and keeps lubricating far longer than a dry film can.

That makes LPS 2 the product for exposed, loaded, and neglected mechanisms — linkages, hinges, chains, cables, and seized hardware. And it makes it the wrong product for a lock, where the oil will hold every particle the keyway admits and turn the mechanism into a lapping compound.

Confirming which product the customer actually needs is worth doing at the point of sale, because the packaging is similar and the consequences of the wrong choice are not.
