LPS 1 is the dry-film member of the LPS range and the application list — locks, precision equipment, electrical devices — is the whole explanation of why it exists.

Ordinary lubricant is oily, and oil is a problem in exactly those three places. In a lock, oil collects the dust and grit that a keyway funnels in, and the mechanism turns into a grinding paste — which is why every locksmith warns against oiling locks. In precision equipment, oil migrates onto surfaces where it does not belong. Around electrical contacts, oil traps carbon and dust and creates the resistance it was supposed to prevent.

LPS 1 applies wet, the carrier evaporates, and what remains is a thin dry film that lubricates and does not collect dirt. That is a genuinely different product from a general-purpose oil, and using the wrong one in a lock is a lesson people learn once.

The trade is longevity. A dry film does not last like an oil film, and it is not for heavily loaded or exposed mechanisms — LPS 2 is the heavy-duty product in the range.

Note the 16 oz can with 11 oz net; the difference is propellant.
