The Loctite LOC199012 is an 8 oz BTC Grade anti-seize lubricant.

Anti-seize exists to prevent galling, and galling is worth understanding because it surprises people. When two threaded metal parts are torqued together, the microscopic high points on the thread flanks are pressed together hard enough to cold-weld. Once they weld, further turning tears metal rather than sliding, which builds more heat and more welding — and the fastener seizes solid, mid-thread. It does not come out; it shears.

Stainless steel is notoriously prone to this, which is why stainless fasteners have a reputation for seizing that carbon steel does not.

Anti-seize interposes soft metal particles suspended in grease between the flanks, so they cannot make metal-to-metal contact. It also stops the long-term corrosion seizure that makes a bolt in a flange impossible to remove years later.

The grade designation determines temperature range and metallurgical compatibility, and the grades are not interchangeable — copper grades are prohibited on stainless in many specifications, nickel grades exist for that reason. Verify the BTC grade's rating and compatibility against your application.

The point that belongs on every anti-seize: it lubricates, so a lubricated fastener reaches a given tension at far lower torque than a dry one. Use the lubricated torque figure or risk snapping the bolt.
