The Loctite LOC160796 is a copper based anti-seize lubricant suspending copper and graphite in grease, preventing rust, in a 1 lb brush top plastic can.

Copper grade is the high-temperature workhorse and copper is the whole specification — for what it does and for where it must not go.

What it does: copper particles suspended in grease keep thread flanks from cold-welding to each other under torque, which is what galling is. Copper also carries very high temperature capability, which is why copper anti-seize lives on exhaust manifolds, brake hardware, and hot flanges. The graphite continues lubricating after the carrier grease has burned away — which it will, at those temperatures.

Where it must not go: stainless steel, in many specifications. Copper in contact with stainless is prohibited in nuclear, certain process, and marine work, and copper contamination is a genuine metallurgical concern rather than a paperwork one. Nickel grade is the anti-seize for those assemblies.

The point that belongs on every anti-seize and is almost never stated: it is a lubricant, and it transforms the torque-tension relationship. A fastener torqued to its dry specification with anti-seize on the threads is over-tensioned and may snap. Use the lubricated torque figure.

The brush top applies it to threads properly.

Applications include exhaust systems, brake hardware, high-temperature flanges, and general assembly.
